VINYL SOUP: The third Incarnation 2007

To put it simply, VINYL SOUP is a four piece Roots Rock band based out of Nashville, TN. These four guys are best known for fusing multiple styles of music and always testing the ether of improvisation.

VINYL SOUP’s music however, is not so simple to describe. Always reaching for a root of a styles origin, VINYL SOUP fuses a style of rock that combines Folk, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Caribbean, Bluegrass, Classical, Classic, Psychadelic, and Progressive Rock. With every show evolving and changing night after night, VINYL SOUP is a band that is constantly bending musical genres and reinventing itself whether in the studio or on the stage.

Now in it’s third incarnation, VINYL SOUP is Andrew Hooker (guitar and vocals), Wes Lloyd (bass and vocals), Dave Brodsky (drums and vocals), and Justin Smith (piano, organ, and vocals). After completing 22 tour dates in 2006, the band came to a screeching halt in May of 2006 when bassist Drew Robinson and drummer John Soward left the band. The departure of Drew and John left the band questionable and VINYL SOUP went on hiatus for seven months. During this time Hooker continued writing new songs and advertising for new musicians. After auditioning many drummers Hooker met Dave Brodsky of Benton, KY, followed by bassist Wes Lloyd of Bowling Green, KY. After several jam sessions Brodsky invited old friend and musician, Justin Smith to a jam session. Justin’s bluesy piano and funky organ sound completed what would soon become VINYL SOUP’s new concoction.

With the beginning of 2007, brings many exciting changes to VINYL SOUP. A new rhythm section along with a keyboardist, completes the band for the first time ever as a quartet. This year will also mark the second studio release for VINYL SOUP entitled, Brandon and Travis. This CD is scheduled for release in early April 2007.

Complete as a quartet and a new studio release on the horizon, the sound is bigger than ever. The changes and departures of 06 have only made the band stronger. Clearly with no end in sight and many miles of pavement ahead of them, VINYL SOUP plans to create a positive community of life, love, and arts and to bring its music to the masses.
